New York, New York | The BMCC men's basketball team rolled against CUNYAC opponent Kingsborough Community College, 74-49, on Tuesday night at BMCC Gymnasium. The Panthers improve to 7-6 (3-2 CUNYAC), while the Wave drops to 1-13 (0-6 CUNYAC).
Three BMCC players finished the evening in double figures, with freshman Malik Bentinck (Queens, New York) leading the way with his eighth straight and a team-leading tenth double-double with a game-high 26 points, 20 of them coming in the first half, and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Terrance McBride (Brooklyn, New York) dropped 17 points, 12 of them in the first half, while freshman William Brown (Brooklyn, New York) dished out a team-best six assists and scored 11 points, both new career-bests.
Sophomore Curtis Smith (Brooklyn, New York) snatched a career and game-high six steals, and freshman Emmanuel Adenekan (Bronx, New York) swatted a season and game-best six blocks.
As a team, the Panthers were dominant down low, outscoring the Wave 36-24 in the paint and turning away a season-high ten blocks. BMCC made Kingsborough pay for its 21 turnovers, turning them into 22 points to the Wave's nine off of the Panthers' 13 turnovers while holding the visitors to 27.1% from the field (19-for-70) and 18.8% from beyond the arc (3-for-16).
After three different lead changes and being knotted up three times over the first five and half minutes of the first half, BMCC outscored Kingsborough Community College 38-14 - 16 of those points coming from Bentinck- for the remainder of the half, holding them to 23.8% shooting from the field (5-for-21), to go into halftime with a 52-27 advantage.
BMCC built their lead up to its heftiest of the night, 35 points - 66-31 - on a Bentinck layup at the 14:36 mark of the second half and never looked back en route to a 74-49 victory.
Sophomore Livingston Bandie led the Wave with 11 points while tying for a team-high with freshman guard Joseph Cohen with eight rebounds apiece.
Notables:
- The Panthers had three players score in double-figures for the fourth straight game and the twelfth time in 13 games this year. Terrance McBride (Brooklyn, New York) has scored in double figures in all 13 games this season, while Malik Bentinck (Queens, New York) is second on the team with 12 double-figure games, including ten straight. William Brown (Brooklyn, New York) recorded his second straight double-digit scoring output of the season.
- Bentinck also posted his team-leading sixth 20-point game and his third in his last four games.
- Bentinck racked up his team-leading tenth double-double of the year, including his eighth straight. He is averaging 19 points per game and 12 rebounds per game after his first two contests this season.
- Emmanuel Adenekan (Bronx, New York) recorded 11 blocks in his last three games and four or more in back-to-back contests.
- BMCC has won three of their last four and two of their last three at home.
