Volleyball Splits Regional Trimatch On The Road Saturday

The BMCC women's volleyball team traveled to Lake Sheldrake, N.Y. for two regional matches on Saturday. In the opener, the Panthers swept Sullivan Community College in Straight sets 25-10, 25-20, 25-16, but fell to Orange County Community College in four-sets (21-25, 9-25, 25-19, 24-26). With the split, BMCC's record moves to 3-4 (3-4 Region XV) on the season.
 
Sophomore Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York) led all swingers with a season-high nine kills on a .357 hitting percentage, while also firing a season-best nine service aces (eight in the third set) and recording a team-high two blocks. Classmate Nolverys Fernandez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) uncorked five kills on a .308 hitting percentage. 
 
The Panthers posted a season-best .357 hitting percentage in the match.
 
Freshman Kaylin Nieves (New York, New York) dished out 17 assists to go along with four kills and two service aces. Fellow underclassman Danielle Singson (Jersey City, New Jersey) recorded six service aces (five of them in the first set), a career-best. 

For Sullivan Community College, freshman Shayne Johnson led all players with three kills and five blocks. Freshman Taylor Arpino dished out a team-high six assists, while sophomore Christina Martinez recorded a team-best four digs.

In the second match against Orange County Community College, sophomore Nolverys Fernandez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) led all hitters with six kills. Fernandez also led the Panthers with four digs to go along with two service aces. Classmate Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York) threw down four kills in the match. 
 
Freshman Kaylin Nieves (New York, New York) handed out a team-high 20 assists, while classmates Andecia Liverpool (Georgetown, Guyana) connected on five kills and Danielle Singson (Jersey City, New Jersey) equaled a career-best with six service aces (four in the third set) while hitting a career-best .429 with four kills.
 
After the Colts took the first two sets, the Panthers rallied to force a fourth set with a 25-19 victory in the third set. BMCC would fight hard in the fourth set but fall, 26-24.

For Orange County Community College, freshman AnJalya Talmadge led all hitters with 15 kills on a .321 hitting percentage. Talmadge also swatted a team-best two blocks to go along with eight digs and five blocks. Classmates Sophia Smith and Emily Deserto both threw down six kills apiece. Smith also recorded a team-high 16 digs in the match.

Freshman Danika Childs dished out a team-high 19 assists to go along with eight digs and five kills, while sophomore Jennifer Ramos posted 12 digs.

The Panthers will continue their five-game road trip next Saturday, Oct. 5 with another Regional tri-match against Sullivan County C.C and Orange County C.C. in Seldon, N.Y. The opening serve is set for noon. For more information on the game, please visit the BMCC Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.
