Volleyball Swept At Regional Trimatch On The Road Saturday

New York, New York | The BMCC women's volleyball team dropped both of their regional matches on Saturday in Seldon, N.Y. In the opener, the Panthers were defeated by Nassau Community College in four-sets (15-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-27), and fell to Suffolk Count Community College in consecutive sets 25-11, 25-20, 25-17. Both losses drop BMCC's record to 3-6 (3-6 Region XV) on the season.

After the Lions took the opening set, the Panthers rallied to even it up with a 25-18 victory in the second set. BMCC would fight hard throughout the rest of the match but fall in the next two games.

Sophomore Nolverys Fernandez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) posted her second double-double of the season, leading all hitters with a team-high 13 kills and four service aces. Fernandez also fielded a team-best 19 digs. Freshman Danielle Singson (Jersey City, New Jersey) threw down a career-best six kills while firing two service aces.

Freshman Kaylin Nieves (New York, New York) recorded her third double-double on the year, dishing out 12 assists to go along with ten digs. Classmates Alyssa Duran (Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic) and Laisha Ulerio (La Vega, Domincan Republic) also chipped in defensively with 17 and 16 digs, respectively.

Nassau Community College freshman Olivia Burns led the offense nine kills and four service aces. Burns also posted a double-double dishing out 12 assists to along with 15 digs. Freshman Kelly Anglim led the lions defensively with 28 digs.

In the second match against Suffolk Community College, Sophomore Nolverys Fernandez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) led all swingers with five kills to go along with a team-high 15 digs. Classmate Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York) uncorked four kills in the match.

Freshman Kaylin Nieves (New York, New York) distributed seven assists to go along with seven digs. Classmate Laisha Ulerio (La Vega, Domincan Republic) fired a season-best three service aces and chipped in on defense with seven digs.

For Suffolk Community College, freshman Jaelyn Conquest led the way with 12 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, while tying a team-high with two services. Sophomore Giselle Fernandez fired nine kills to go along with a team-high seven digs, and freshman Paitence Genier also had seven kills to go along with six digs and two service aces, tying a team-high. 

Freshman Kassandra Hernandez also dished out a match-high 37 assists.

The Panthers will finish up their five-game road trip this Tuesday, Oct. 8, in a CUNYAC play against Bronx Community College. The opening serve is set for 7 p.m. Live Stats will be provided for the match and will be available by visiting the BMCC Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.
