Bayside, New York | On Tuesday night, the BMCC women's volleyball team faced CUNYAC opponent Queensborough Community College on the road in a rematch of the 2018 CUNYAC Championship. The Panthers lost to the Tigers in straight sets, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-20. In defeat, BMCC falls to 1-2 (1-1 CUNYAC) on the season, while Queensborough Community College improves to 4-2 (2-0 CUNYAC).
For the third straight game, sophomore
Nolverys Fernandez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) led the Panthers offensively with nine kills on a .500 hitting percentage (9k-3e-12a), both season-highs.
Fernandez also recorded a team-best six digs and three service aces. Freshman
Kaylin Nieves (New York, New York) dished out 18 assists while also posting three kills and two service aces.
Classmate
Danielle Singson (Jersey City, New Jersey) hit .667, a team-high, while fellow underclassman
Andecia Liverpool (Georgetown, Guyana) was a presence at the net, leading BMCC with three blocks.
The Panther's also hit a season-best .357 (19k-9e-28e).
For Queensborough, sophomore Paige Hughes led all players with six kills and 13 digs. Classmate Michelle Sosa recorded ten digs, while freshman Bianca Brielle threw down five kills on a .211 hitting percentage. Classmate Amira Durkovic distributed a team-high 14 assists to go along with three kills.
Up next, the Panthers return to the friendly confines of BMCC Gymnasium this Saturday, Sept. 21st, in a regional tri-match against Westchester Community College and Rockland Community College. The first match is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. All information for both games is available on the
