Bayside, NY | The Lady Panthers basketball team matched up against the Queensborough Tigers on Tuesday night with the opportunity to secure a spot in the conference playoffs if they could win on the road. With stifling team defense and three starters reaching double-digit scoring totals, the Lady Panthers came away with a dominant 56-36 win over their CUNYAC opponent.
The women's basketball team forced 22 turnovers and held the Tigers offense to just 21.1% shooting from the field in the 20 point victory.
Naya Verley set a new personal best in scoring by going 7 for 17 from the field for a game-high 16 points. Freshman
Lauren Malcolm picked up a double-double in scoring and rebounding with 13 points and 13 boards. In her first start of the season,
Blossom Berruecos was impressive. The freshman guard played all 40 minutes and finished with 15 points and 3 assists to go along with 3 steals.
This outcome snapped a 9-game losing streak for the Lady Panthers and the team will look to carry the momentum from the win into this weekend's contest against the Bronx Broncos. Saturday's game is set to tip off at 12pm.
