Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Headed for playoffs, BMCC Basketball gains momentum with doubleheader win

New York, NY | With the CUNYAC tournament quickly approaching, BMCC men's and women's basketball teams first needed to handle business in a doubleheader matchup on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the final home game of the regular season, BMCC honored their 7 second-year players in a pregame ceremony. The women's team faced off against the Bronx Broncos in a CUNYAC showdown, with the Lady Panthers coming out on top in a 55-37 victory. Intent on snapping a 6 game losing skid, the men's team did not hold back in an 80-62 win against the Rockland Hawks.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, freshman Autum Adams-Edwards led the offense with a game-high 24 points and collected 7 rebounds. Her freshman teammate Naya Verley filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds, while Blossom Berruecos poured in another 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Exploding for 27 assists, 7 points and 7 rebounds, combo guard Quran Dublin powered the Panthers past the Division II Hawks. Sophomore Viktor Kovacevic proved he was fully recovered from an injury that kept him out from the last several games, the forward finished the game with a double-double in points [13] and rebounds [13]. The Hawks simply had no answer for the Panthers' shooting guards, with Alex Humphreys and Elijah Smith combining for 7 made threes and 29 points total.

With the doubleheader win, the Lady Panthers improved to 4-4 in conference games this year and the Panthers brought their overall record to 18-7. Both teams will be in action next week in the CUNYAC Tournament. The #3 seeded women's team will take on the #2 Queensborough Tigers at 8pm on Monday, while the #2 Panthers will face the #3 seeded QCC Tigers men's team.
