New York, New York -Â The BMCC men's basketball team bounced back with a 91-81 victory against Regional opponent Monroe College, at home Thursday evening at BMCC Gymnasium. With the win, the Panthers improve to 3-3 (2-2 Region XV), while the Express fall to 2-4 (1-3 Region XV).
Four BMCC players scored in double-figures, with two of them reaching the 20-point plateau on the night, led by sophomore guard Terrance McBride (Brooklyn, New York) team-high 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting, tying a game-high. McBride also snatched a game-high five steals in the contest. Freshman Malik Bentinck (Queens, New York) put up his third double-double on the year, dropping 20 points and hauling down a team-best 14 rebounds, while classmates Elvys Ceballos (New York City, New York) and Shakeem Reid (Brooklyn, New York) chipped in with 19 points and 13 points. Ceballos also dished out a team-high five assists.Â
BMCC got off to a fast start in the early part of the first half, by rattling off the game's first eight points -- the first four coming from Bentinck, then on a layup from Reid and a jumper from McBride -- to take an 8-0 lead, before Monroe responded with a 9-0 run to take their first lead 9-8. Reid went 1-for-2 at the line to tie the score at nine all, then Panthers went on a 7-0 run and held the Express scoreless for the next 4:03 to lead 16-7.Â
Monroe College would retake the lead by one, 22-21, on a layup at 5:12, before a William Brown (Brooklyn, New York) three-pointer at 1:41 put BMCC back in front 28-26. Twenty-two seconds later, an Express lay-in tied it up at 28, before the Panthers closed out the first half on an 8-0 run to lead 36-28 at halftime.Â
After a Bentinck jumper opened the scoring in the early part of the third quarter to extend their lead to 38-30, Monroe put together a 10-2 run to tie it for a third time at 40 on a jumper at 16:14. BMCC would outscore Monroe over the next 8:37 to stretch their lead into double-digits for the first time, 67-57, on a McBride three-pointer. Ceballos converted a three-point play at 4:33 to extend the Panther lead to 18, 83-65, the biggest of the night. The Panthers would never look back from there and rolled to a 91-81 victory.Â
Three players scored in double figures for Monroe College (Bronx), with freshman guard Adonis Robinson leading the way with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including knocking down seven three-pointers, both tying game-highs. Robinson also brought down a team-high nine boards in the game. Classmate Terrence Trice distributed a game-high six assists and scored 10 points. Sophomore guard Kevin Austion also contributed 10 points as well.

- Bentinck and Elvys Ceballos (New York City, New York) has five double-digit scoring performances in six games this year, with Ceballos recording his fourth straight and Bentinck his third consecutive contest in double-figures.
