Bayside, New York | The BMCC women's basketball team used dominant performances from sophomore Aniyah Davis (Brooklyn, New York) and freshman Shyasia Preston (Far Rockaway, New York) to notch their first win of the season, 60-31, against Queensborough Community College in conference action on the road Tuesday evening. The victory improves the Panthers to 1-3 (1-1 CUNYAC) on the year, while the Tigers fall to 0-7 (0-1 CUNYAC) with the loss.
Davis recorded her second double-double of the season, as she led all players with 16 points, while also grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds, swiping three steals and dishing out two assists. Preston put up her first double-double of the season, hauling down 11 rebounds and chipping in with 10 points, while distributing a team-high three assists and swatting two shots, tying a team-best, to go along with four steals.
Sophomores Autum Adams-Edwards (Brooklyn, New York) and Blossom Berruecos (Flushing, NY) both recorded 10 points apiece, while classmate Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York) gobbled up a team-high five steals and brought down 11 rebounds, just missing out on a double-double with nine points.
The Panthers dominated the Tigers on the boards, 58-35, while holding them to just 20% shooting from the field (11-for-55) on the night.
After Queensborough Community College jumped out to a 4-3 lead at 5:27 of the first, BMCC finished the quarter on a 12-2 run for a 15-6 advantage after one. The Panthers held the hosts to seven points while adding 16 points in the second quarter to take a 31-13 lead into the halftime break.
BMCC's lead reached 25 points at 5:20 of the third quarter after a 10-3 run made it 41-16. The teams would trade the next six points from there, and it was a 44-19 lead for BMCC at the end of the third.
The Panther lead would balloon up to as much as 26 twice late in the final stanza, en route to a 60-31 BMCC victory.
Two players scored in double-figures for Queensborough Community College, with freshman guard Brooke Beards leading the way 12 points while handing out five assists and rejecting three shots, both team-bests. Classmate Imani Paul dropped 11 points on the evening to go along with a team-high five steals, while fellow underclassmen Jordan Grier and Enasha Davis both scooped up a team-best seven rebounds apiece.
