Panthers Pick Up Great 3-2 Comeback Win At Kingsborough Community College On Tuesday Night

New York, New York | The BMCC women's volleyball team rallied from down 2-1 in the match to come back and defeat CUNYAC opponent Kingsborough Community College, 3-2, on the road Tuesday night in Brooklyn, New York. With the win, the Panthers improve their record to 6-7 (4-2 CUNYAC), while the Wave drop to 3-12 (1-4 CUNYAC).

After BMCC took the first set, 25-21, Kingsborough won back-to-back games, 25-16 in the second set, and 25-23 in the third set to lead the match 2-1. The Panthers would finally take control and rallied to tie the match up with a dominant 25-15 victory in the fourth set. 

BMCC carried that momentum into the fifth set and never looked back, cruising to a 15-4 victory to take the match 3-2.

BMCC recorded a season-high 26 service aces in the five-set win, with sophomore Nolverys Fernandez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) leading the way with ten, a career-high. Classmate Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York) fired four service aces, while four other Panthers had at least three- sophomore Laisha Ulerio (La Vega, Domincan Republic) and newcomers Kaylin Nieves (New York, New York), Alyssa Duran (Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic), and Danielle Singson (Jersey City, New Jersey)

Fernandez also led all swingers with a team-high 15 kills, while freshman Andecia Liverpool (Georgetown, Guyana) had seven kills and led all players at the net with four blocks. Malcolm also had five kills. 

Nieves dished out a team-high 13 assists, while Ulerio distributed five of her own. Duran and Singson led the defense with five digs apiece, while sophomore Irina Kovalchuk (Yuzno-Sakhalinsk, Russia) contributed four in the match.

For Kingsborough, sophomore middle hitter Prishany Skinner led the offense with a match-high 18 kills, while classmates Kinga Kupras and Daina Garcia both led the defense with a game-high 26 digs.
