Panthers Lose On The Road At the Fashion Institute of Technology

New York, New York | The BMCC women's volleyball team traveled to the Fashion Institute of Technology to face the fourth-ranked team in the Region on Thursday Night.

The Panthers lost a hard-fought battle to the Fashion Institute of Technology, 3-1, at the FIT Gymnasium. The defeat drops the BMCC's record to 7-7 (7-7 REGION XV) on the season, while the FIT stays perfect at 21-0 (9-0 REGION XV) improve to 3-3. 

BMCC battled hard in a first set decided by three points but fell short, 25-22, before FIT rolled in the second, 25-15. The third set went in favor of the Panthers, 26-24 before the Tigers sealed the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.

Sophomore Nolverys Fernandez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) spearheaded the Panther's attack and defense with a team-high eight kills and 17 digs. Classmate Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York) registered a team-best five blocks to go along with five kills, while freshman Danielle Singson (Jersey City, New Jersey) also put down five kills on a .400 hitting percentage. 

Freshman Kaylin Nieves (New York, New York) fired a team-best four service aces while dishing out a team-high 13 assists. Sophomore Laisha Ulerio (La Vega, Domincan Republic) and Singson also contributed on defense with 15 digs and 14 digs, respectively.

For FIT, Clarissa McNeill led all players with nine kills on the night, while Youjung Kwon chipped in with eight kills of her own. Ansley Dotson also fired a team-high three service aces.

Stephanie distributed a team-high 18 assists, while Jenna Butler led the defense with 14 digs, and Dotson also provided help with 11 digs.

The Panthers conclude their regular season with a Regional Tri-match against Dutchess Community College and Monroe College, Saturday, Oct.19,  at BMCC Gymnasium. Before the match, there will be a two-year day ceremony honoring four sophomores on the team.
