New York, NY | The BMCC women's volleyball team began the 2018 season on Saturday with a pair of games against Region 15 opponents. BMCC made quick work of the Bronx Broncos in three sets, before facing a tough FIT Tigers team that pushed the match to five sets, but the Lady Panthers would ultimately come out on top with a 3-2 victory.
The lone returning player from last year's squad, team captain
Jennifer Chacon pushed BMCC to a 2-0 start to the season. The Lady Panthers' setter began her sophomore campaign by leading the team with 48 assists to go along with her 7 service aces on the day. Throughout the two matches, Chacon was setting up her freshman teammates
Yolireisi Pichardo and
Soraya Naki with great passes, they would go on to finish with 28 and 13 kills, respectively. Freshman outside hitter
Nolverys Fernandez dominated the service game with 10 aces, while the team's libero,
Nisha Rosario, held down the defensive end with a team-high 47 digs.
The Lady Panthers will return to action next Saturday when they host the Hostos Caimans and Queensborough Tigers in a weekend doubleheader. The first match will begin at 12 pm in the BMCC Gymnasium.
