For the first time this year all three BMCC Fall sports teams were in action on Saturday, with the men's and women's soccer team traveling to Kingsborough while the volleyball team hosted the Hostos Caimans and Queensborough Tigers. The Lady Panthers volleyball team made quick work of the Caimans in a three set victory before getting swept in straight sets by the defending champion Tigers squad. The women's soccer team set the tone for the day with a 7-1 win over the Wave, and the men's team followed their lead by defeating their CUNYAC opponent by a final score of 9-0.

Jahvaughnie Johnson reclaimed his spot as the Panthers top goal-scorer with a hat trick against Kingsborough this weekend. The sophomore midfielder recorded a pair of assists on passes to
Adrian Santos and
Yandry Delgado, each of whom recorded the first goal in their collegiate career. Delgado, the Panthers freshman forward picked up his second assist on the day when he found Domagoj Budimir-Beka with a cross pass in front of the net. Freshman midfielder
Edison Burgos had a breakout performance with 2 assists and a goal of his own, while sophomore
Brian Ampaw recorded his first goal and assist of the season.
In the first match of the season,
Victoria Koga led the BMCC women's soccer team with 3 goals. Coming off of a 9 goal season in her freshman campaign,
Ericka Ovillo returned for the 2018 season. In her sophomore debut, the Lady Panthers forward struck for 2 goals to go along with her 2 assists. Freshman
Stacy Guaman was excellent in the opening match, she found her teammates with passes leading to goals on three separate occasions, including an assist on
Karla Garcia's goal in the 60
th minute.
The women's volleyball team cruised to the third straight win to start the season behind the strong attacking offense of
Soraya Naki (7 kills),
Kimberlyn Campos (5 kills) and
Yolireisi Pichardo (4 kills). Pichardo picked apart the Caimans defense with her service game, the outside hitter recorded a team-high 5 aces. She continued the attack against a tough Queensborough squad, racking up 10 kills and a block assist before the Lady Panthers fell in three sets.
BMCC athletics will return to action on Wednesday with the women's soccer team facing the FIT Tigers in their home opener at Pier 40. Kickoff is set for 12pm.
