Bronx, NY | After clinching a regional playoff spot earlier in the week, the BMCC volleyball team looked to take care of business this weekend in a doubleheader against the Monroe Express and Dutchess Falcons. The Lady Panthers would cruise past the Express in straight sets before outlasting the Falcons in a five-set thriller.
A dominant performance from Lady Panthers' freshman
Yolireisi Pichardo (10 kills, 7 aces) helped BMCC secure their 10
th win of the season. Sophomore
Jennifer Chacon contributed with 16 assists to go along with 5 service aces.
In the following match, Dutchess took BMCC to five sets, but the Lady Panthers would come away victorious with a 15-5 score in the final set. Once again, Pichardo led the team with 18 kills, while
Ashley LaSalle (11 kills) and
Soraya Naki (8 kills) were an integral part of the attacking offense. Chacon recorded another 6 aces, she finished the regular season with team-highs in assists (369) and service aces (72). At the libero position,
Nisha Rosario had her top defensive performance of the season with 49 digs.
By sweeping the final regular season doubleheader, BMCC will move to 11-7 on the season. They will return to action on Monday to face the Kingsborough Wave in the opening round of the CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Women's Volleyball Championship.
