New York, NY | The men's soccer team squared off against the Westchester Vikings in the opening round of the Region 15 Tournament on Saturday.
In their last meeting the Panthers took a lead in the second half and held on to win 2-1. This time around the Vikings jumped out to an early lead, scoring a goal in the first minute of the match. The Vikings defense held strong, forcing a long scoring drought until the Panthers found the back of the net in the 79
th minute on a goal from
Daouda Coulibaly. Following two periods of overtime the score remained tied and the teams would enter a penalty kick shootout to decide the winner. Westchester managed to outscore BMCC 4-3 to advance to the regional semifinals.
In many ways the Panthers defied expectations this year. Despite there being just four sophomore players on the roster, BMCC managed to finish 7-5 without losing a match by more than one goal all season. The freshman-laden roster pushed the Panthers to their 5
th consecutive winning season while claiming all three major CUNYAC Awards, instilling confidence in the direction of the program heading into 2019.
