New York, NY | The BMCC women's basketball team took on the Kingsborough Wave in a matchup between two CUNYAC teams on Tuesday evening. Playing exactly one month since their last appearance in December, the Lady Panthers offense took a few quarters to shake off the rust, but strong defense throughout the game and a 25 point fourth quarter allowed BMCC to come away with a 72-36 victory.
The team combined to finish with 15 steals while limiting Kingsborough offense to shooting 21.3% from the field. After shooting 1 for 13 from behind the arc in the first three quarters, the Lady Panthers knocked down three treys in the final ten minutes to seal the win.
Sophomores
Karina Ortega and
Nikola Zilakova each finished with 19 points to lead the BMCC offense. Ortega added to her impressive scoring performance by grabbing 15 rebounds, 6 steals and dishing out 4 assists.
Maryam Toure picked up her fourth double-double of the season by recording 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Panthers center was one of six players to record five or more boards as BMCC outrebounded their opponent by a 23 rebound margin.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 10-2 overall (4-1 in conference) and will look to extend their winning streak to 4 games when they travel to Poughkeepsie to take on the Dutchess Falcons this Saturday.
