Panthers Stretch Win Streak to 4 With 8-1 Victory over Colts

New York, NY | The Panthers soccer teams were looking to keep their win streaks alive when they squared off against Region 15 opponents this week. After allowing the Colts to score on a free kick, the Panthers offense was sparked and went on to score 7 goals in the first half, with a comfortable lead, BMCC men's soccer team held firm on defense to win their fourth straight game. The Lady Panthers were going for their third straight win on Thursday as they took on FIT, but could only net one goal and fell to the Tigers 2-1.

The women's soccer team came out strong in the first half, scoring in the 10th minute when Skylyn Apolinar found the back of the net. Following the early goal, the Lady Panthers struggled to get another shot in before halftime. FIT managed to score a pair of goals, with the second one coming on a shot taken from near midfield to gain a 2-1 lead. Trailing by one goal, a BMCC player received a red card from the referee to give FIT a man advantage. The Lady Panthers attempted to rally back in the second half, but could not find the tying goal despite creating 6 opportunities before the final whistle blew. Following the loss, the Lady Panthers will look to bring their record to .500 on Thursday when they face off against the Dutchess Falcons.

After jumping out to a 3-0 record to start the season, the region-leading men's soccer team kept the ball rolling against the SUNY Orange Colts. Javaughnie Johnson added on to his list of impressive performances this season with a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes on Wednesday. The Panthers freshman now leads the team in scoring with 6 goals. Fellow midfielder Brando Guzman is near the top of the team in scoring with 4 goals after netting 2 goals in the first half to go along with 2 assists in the match. With a two players netting two goals apiece in the first half, sophomore Aboubacar Keita topped off the first half scoring by recording his first career hat trick to put the Panthers up 7-1. The Panthers defense would continue to set the tone as they held the Colts without a shot in the second half. BMCC right back Amara Soumare picked up his second assist of the match when he crossed a ball into Richard Bravo for his first career goal for the Panthers. Coach Seck and the Panthers will return to action on Saturday when they take on the Rockland Hawks (1-7-1) at Pier 40.
