Jamaica, NY | The BMCC baseball team entered Saturday's doubleheader determined to avoid a series sweep by Kingsborough. But it would be the Wave coming out on top in both games this weekend to earn a berth in the CUNYAC Community College Baseball Championship.
Kingsborough jumped out to a 3-run lead coming off of two hits in the first inning of Game 1. The score would remain that way until BMCC responded with a pair of runs from
Maximo Garcia and
Osvaldo Valdez in the third. Despite a dominant performance from reliever
Steven Dominguez, who went 4 innings without giving up a run, the Panthers could not bring any more runs across and fell to the Wave by a final score 5-2.
The offense improved in Game 2 with BMCC driving in 4 runs while going 5-25 at the plate with 10 walks, but could not capitalize and dropped the final game of the series. Designated hitter
Christopher Rodriguez led the team with two hits and an RBI, while Garcia earned 3 walks and scored a pair of runs.
Following the loss, the Panthers record drops to 4-25, including 3-9 conference record. BMCC will finish their regular season with a doubleheader against the Nassau Lions on Wednesday. With a win, the Panthers will earn a berth in the NJCAA Region 15 tournament.
