New York, NY | The Panthers squared off against the Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College on Saturday afternoon in a non-region matchup. Both sides went on scoring runs in regulation time with the lead changing hands 5 times, but neither team could gain an advantage and the game headed into five minutes of extra time. Jefferson outlasted BMCC in overtime to sneak away with a 106-98 victory and hand the Panthers their first loss of the season.
BMCC received contributions on offense from up and down their lineup, with seven players recording 9 or more points.
Curtis Smith led the Panthers on offense with 20 points after shooting 5 of 10 from beyond the arc,
Quran Dublin added on with 18 points in his collegiate debut. Freshman
Viktor Kovacevic finished the game with a double-double in points [13] and rebounds [12]. Combo guard
Aliou Cisse led the team in assists with 6 to go along with his 13 points, while point guard
Anthony McClean tallied 12 points and 5 assists before leaving the game early with an injury.
The Panthers will look to get back on track when they begin their conference schedule with a matchup against the Kingsborough Wave in Brooklyn on Tuesday. The first road test of the 2017-18 season is set to tip off at 8pm as the second leg of a women's-men's CUNYAC doubleheader.
