Saturday Doubleheader recap: Lady Panthers beat Sullivan County by 11

New York, NY | The men's and women's basketball teams were in action on Saturday afternoon against the Sullivan County Generals in a Region XV doubleheader. BMCC picked up a win in the first game of the doubleheader by closing out the Generals in the second half to come away with a 72-61 victory, meanwhile the men's team could not get in a rhythm on offense and fell by a final score of 94-86.

The Lady Panthers received huge contributions from their sophomore players to counter a 25 point game from Sullivan County's star player. Karina Ortega finished the game with 21 points and 8 rebounds, while Nikola Zilakova recorded 17 points, 6 assists, and 6 boards. Jessycca Myers continues to impress in her freshman season, the Lady Panthers forward poured in 11 points on 50% shooting from the field to go along with her 6 rebounds. Freshman Ebony Marshall provided support off of the bench with 9 points and 4 rebounds to lead the second team for BMCC.

In the second half of the doubleheader the BMCC men's team struggled offensively, shooting just 44% from the field and a dismal 23% from three point range, but the game remained in reach due to lopsided rebounding totals in favor of the Panthers (45-36). Quran Dublin led the comeback charge with 23 points on an 8 of 11 shooting performance, with Aliou Ceesay adding on another 22 in his best outing of the season. As the Panthers faced a double-digit deficit late in the game, Panthers sophomore Lawrence Todman energized the team with 4 blocks in the final minutes. Todman would finish with 10 points and 7 rebounds to help the Panthers cut the deficit down to 8 points by the end of the game.

BMCC basketball will return to action on Tuesday when the men's team takes on the Rockland Hawks at 7 pm.
