New York, NY | The women's basketball team took the court against the LaGuardia Red Hawks on Thursday night looking to improve their conference record to 4-2. BMCC made quick work of their CUNYAC opponent by hitting shot after shot and forcing turnovers on defense on their way to a 71-54 blowout victory.
After a slow start, the Lady Panthers went on a 20-3 run in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 16 point lead. BMCC continued to pour it on offensively in the second half as they stretched the lead to 26 points midway through the fourth quarter.
As a team, the Lady Panthers shot 40% from the field and out-rebounded the Red Hawks by a 46-29 margin. The Red Hawks defense had no answer for the Lady Panthers forward
Ashley Brooks, the sophomore could not be contained on either end of the court as she worked her way to an impressive 19 points, 17 rebounds and 6 blocks on the night while shooting 58% from the field.
Natalija Dubrovina was a key contributor in the win, the freshman finished the game with 14 points while dishing out 4 assists. Freshman
Karina Ortega made the most of her opportunities, going 5-for-9 from the field to finish with 12 points to go along with her 4 steals, 3 assists and 3 rebounds.
The Lady Panthers will be back in action on Saturday when they take on the Nassau Lions at noon in BMCC Gymnasium.
