New York, NY | The women's basketball team faced off against the SUNY Orange Colts in BMCC Gymnasium on Thursday night. The Lady Panthers jumped out to an early lead and kept their foot on the gas in the second half to come away with a 70-51 victory over their Division-II opponent.
In the win, BMCC recorded 20 assists, while outrebounding the Colts (49-33) by a wide margin. Lady Panthers freshman
Natalija Dubrovina led the way shooting 8-for-15 from the field on her way to 18 points, while adding on with 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Ashley Brooks created problems for SUNY Orange with her play in the low post, the reigning Region XV Player of the Month finished with 15 points and 22 rebounds for her 9
th double-double this season. Point guard
Nikola Zilakova recorded 15 points while dishing out 6 assists, and
Jehosheba Foster piled on with with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
"I thought we played our best team basketball of the season tonight" said Head Coach
Ben Newberg after the Lady Panthers recorded a season-high in assists. "There were possessions where the ball barely touched the floor, it was 4 or 5 passes leading to an open shot or layup."
After a solid victory over a Division-II team, the Lady Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Brooklyn to take on the Kingsborough Wave. Tipoff is set for 6 pm.
