New York, NY | The Panthers faced a tough test as they went up against the Division II SUNY Orange Colts on Thursday night. After trailing for the entire game, the Panthers mounted a comeback and took the lead in the final minutes, but could not hang on and the Colts managed to sneak away with an 87-84 win.
Due to injuries, BMCC resorted to a smaller lineup against Orange, but exceptional play by the Panther backcourt kept them in the game. BMCC's Sophomore
Jason Mejia caught fire from three point range, going 6-for-10 from behind the arc on his way to a season-high 30 points. Meanwhile freshman shooting guard
George Keener racked up his first double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen guards
Anthony McClean and Melvin Collins finished the night with 10 and 7 points, respectively. Vasilios "Billy" Halkios had his breakout game for the Panthers, the freshman filled the stat sheet with 7 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
Following the non-region loss, the Panthers will hit the road for their next matchup against the Kingsborough Wave. Tipoff is set for Tuesday at 8 pm.
