BMCC Splits Saturday Doubleheader

New York, NY  | The women's volleyball team squared off against two conference opponents in a tri-match at BMCC Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. After a 3-0 start to their regional schedule, the Lady Panthers looked to upset a dominant Queensborough Tigers team. BMCC kept each set close, but came up empty against Queensborough as the Tigers would go on to sweep all three sets. The Lady Panthers quickly put their first loss behind them and shifted their focus onto their next opponent, the Kingsborough Wave. With a number of BMCC players getting well-deserved rest after a string of 4 matches in three days, the Panthers team eased to a 3 set victory (25-12, 25-14, 25-19) over their CUNYAC opponent.

In the losing effort, freshman Camille Pangalangan had a standout performance, the outside hitter led the Lady Panthers with 5 kills and 3 solo blocks. As a libero, freshman Jasmin Vidal held the defense together with 8 digs while recording a pair of kills.

The second match of the day featured a dominating team effort offensively, with a total of eight different BMCC players recording a kill. Middle hitter Stela Vaso continues to impress for the Lady Panthers, the freshman tallied a team-high 7 kills during the match, including a few powerful spikes to help the Panthers get back on track after trailing early in the final set. Once agains, Vidal played excellent for the Lady Panthers, she would lead the team with 13 assists, 5 aces, and 7 digs, while Crisneysi Mejia came up strong in the final set to finish with a season-high 6 assists.

Following the blowout victory at home, the Lady Panthers will travel to Selden, NY on Saturday to play a doubleheader against the Nassau Lions and Suffolk Sharks. Next weekend's match is set to begin at noon.
