New York, NY | The Lady Panthers were in action on Thursday night looking for their 4th consecutive victory to start the season. BMCC started off strong in their matchup against their CUNYAC rivals, the Hostos Caimans, winning the first set in a convincing fashion by a score of 25-20. The Caimans would respond with back-to-back set wins of 22-25 to put the pressure on the Lady Panthers, who would answer with a dominant 25-17 victory to force a fifth set tiebreaker. In the final set, the teams battled back and forth, until BMCC came out on top by a final score of 18-16.
Kayshawna Richardson and
Stela Vaso set the tone offensively with 15 kills apiece,
Damali Prince and
Essence Walker followed up with 6 and 5 kills of their own. Vaso was excellent all around for the Lady Panthers tonight, routinely making saves to keep BMCC in the game, she would finish with a team-high 13 digs. Sophomore
Kimberly Mejia's dominant serve kept the Caimans guessing throughout the five sets, she finished the match with 3 aces, while adding on defensively with 6 digs.
BMCC will be looking to make it five straight when they take on the Queensborough Tigers in the first match of a doubleheader this weekend. Saturday's volleyball action is set to begin at noon, followed by the second match against the Kingsborough Wave.
