Queens, NYÂ |Â The Tigers were looking to avenge their early season loss on Tuesday night a
fter BMCC handled Queensborough in their first matchup. While the Tigers managed to keep the score close this time around, the Panthers came out strong in the second half to win 80-71.
The first half was a back and forth battle with neither side managing to pull ahead. Queensborough would hit a few threes in the final minutes of the first half to enter halftime with a 3 point lead. The Panthers took a different approach in the second half, choosing to get the ball down low to their forwards to score to use their size advantage. This would open up the floor for the Panthers, and
Jamel Harris (Bronx, NY) took advantage of this opportunity by knocking down four 3-pointers. Strong distributing from guard
Matthew Boyd (Hempstead, NY) led to five of his teammates finishing the game with double-digit scoring totals.Â
The Tigers could not find a way to contain
Jonathan Jones as he carved up the defense in the best performance of his BMCC career. Jones went 11-for-15 from the field for 23 points, while recording 10 rebounds and grabbing 2 steals. But the story of the night came when 2015-16 All-American
Kenneth Coar (Bronx, NY ) surpassed
Joseph Ojo's 652 point benchmark to become the leading scorer in BMCC history. Coar dominated the Tigers interior defense as he shot 75% from the field on his way to 14 points, while leading the Panthers with 12 rebounds and 5 blocks. Following last night's performance, the sophomore is now within striking distance of breaking the all-time blocking and rebounding records as well.
The men's team has two games remaining in the regular season. Next up they will travel to Stone Ridge, NY to take on the Ulster Senators tomorrow at 7pm.
