Poughkeepsie, NY |Â BMCC traveled upstate Saturday for doubleheader action against the Dutchess Falcons and Ulster Senators, and won by final scores of 3-0, 3-1 to move into fifth place in Region 15 with five matches remaining. The Lady Panthers will have a few key matchups this week as they look to move up the standings. They currently sit at 8 wins and 4 losses in the region, and will be taking on Westchester (8-4), Rockland (7-3), FIT (5-3), Orange County (7-3) and Sullivan County (1-7) to close out the season.
In Saturday's action,
Stela Vaso came up big for the Lady Panthers as she tallied 27 kills, 20 digs, and 5 blocks through two matches. In the three set sweep of Dutchess, BMCC's
Yulia Kuzmina led the team with 15 assists and 3 service aces, while
Eugenie Maguire and
Camille Pangalangan held the team together defensively with 12 and 10 digs, respectively. The following match against Ulster was a tougher contest for the Panthers, but they would prevail in four sets thanks to an impressive 17 kills from Vaso and another 11 from freshman
Damali Prince. With the fast tempo attack of the Ulster causing problems in the first set, BMCC responded with excellent defending from their entire team to win the match. In the end, seven players finished with 10 or more digs as the Lady Panthers cruised to a victory over the Division II team.
The Lady Panthers will take on the two of the top teams in the region this weekend when they face off against Westchester and Rockland at BMCC Gymnasium. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at noon, all BMCC students are encouraged to attend as the Lady Panthers make a push for the playoffs.
