Baseball Surrenders Sunday Doubleheader to Morris

The Panthers sit at 2-20 after consecutive losses to the Titans

RANDOLPH, NJ| The Borough of Manhattan Community College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader for the second time in as many days on Sunday afternoon, this time to the County College of Morris in Randolph, NJ. The Titans claimed victory in game one by the score of 11-1 and 14-4 in games two. With the losses, the Panthers fall to 2-20 (1-7 CUNYAC) on the season, meanwhile the Titans improve to 15-15-1.

Designated hitter Reginald German put the Panthers on the board in the top of the first when his RBI single scored catcher Miguel Salas, but Morris responded immediately via Pasquale Andreula's RBI double in the bottom of the first which scored two runs.

Morris' Joey Fisco brought home two more runs off a double in the second inning before Ross Halkias tallied another in the third. Faced with a 5-1 deficit in the top of the fourth, the Panthers failed to reduce the lead, and a four-run fourth inning for the hosts and a two-run fifth ended the game after Morris pulled ahead 11-1.

Camilo Pena (0-1) lost in his first start of the season and allowed nine earned runs. Catcher Miguel Salas, second baseman Frandy Nunez, center fielder Jason Villalona and German all recorded hits in the loss.

The hosts stormed out to a 10-run lead through the first three innings of the second game, but the Panthers rallied for four runs in the fourth inning. Consecutive RBI singles from German and Villalona scored two runs before right fielder Divine Hawkins knocked in two runs with his first double of the season.

Morris failed to score in the bottom of the fourth, but managed four runs in the bottom of the fifth and ended the game after five innings with a 14-4 win.

Gerson Perez (1-2) took the loss for the Panthers, allowing seven runs (five earned) in two innings of action. Christopher Garcia provided relief in the third inning but allowed another seven runs through the final three innings.

German, Villalona and Hawkins' three hits in the fourth were the only three the Panthers recorded in the loss.

The Panthers are set to begin their final series of the season on Tuesday, April 21 when they travel up to the Bronx to face Bronx Community College for a 4:00 PM. The game will take place at Ohio Field on the Bronx campus.
