Sharks Blank Panthers in Series Opener

Game two set for Friday at Padavan-Preller

BELLEROSE, NY| The Borough of Manhattan Community College baseball team was defeated 9-0 by Suffolk County Community College in the opening game of a four-game series on Tuesday at Padavan-Preller Complex in Bellerose, NY. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 2-15 (1-7 CUNYAC) on the season, while the Sharks improve to 9-7.

After two scoreless innings, Suffolk scored two runs in the bottom of the third courtesy of a sac fly and a single. The Sharks would score another run in the fourth and two more in the sixth, but the Panthers struggled to rally offensively. An RBI single by Suffolk's Jesse Patriss and a three-run home run by Nicholas VonOhlen in the ninth inning ensured the 9-0 victory for the visitors.

Mario Padron (0-3) suffered his third loss of the season in a game that saw him pitch six innings. The Manhattan native allowed five runs and struck out six batters.

Miguel Salas provided relief in the seventh and eighth innings and struck out two of the six batters he faced.

Catcher Wilson Aristy, left fielder Christopher Garcia and shortstop Reginald German all went 1-3 at the plate with one strikeout.

The Panthers and Sharks return to action for game two of the series on Friday, April 16 at 4:00 PM at Padavan-Preller. The series wraps up with a doubleheader at Suffolk's Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY on Saturday, April 18 at 12:00 PM.
