Baseball Goes 1-1 in Sunday Doubleheader with Globe

Kenny Berihuete went 3-3 in a 7-3 victory in game one

BELLEROSE, NY| The Borough of Manhattan Community College baseball team earned its second win of the season and split a doubleheader with the Globe Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon at Padavan-Preller complex in Bellerose, NY. The Panthers took game one by the score of 7-3 before surrendering the second game 16-1. BMCC now sits at 2-14 (1-7) on the season, meanwhile Globe sports a 2-11 record.

BMCC jumped out to an early one-run lead in the first after catcher Wilson Aristy brought Frandy Nunez home after reaching first base on a fielder's choice. In the third, Christopher Garcia doubled the Panthers lead when his double scored Kenny Berihuete, but a three-run inning for Globe gave the hosts their only lead of the afternoon.

Mario Padron scored off an error in the fifth inning to knot the game up at three, and in the sixth, the Manhattan native scored after being walked in to give the Panthers the 4-3 lead heading into the seventh. BMCC would go on to score three insurance runs in the final inning—with Jose Ochoa and Terrance Biel getting credit for RBI's—before earning the 7-3 victory.

Freshman Reginald German (1-0) pitched a complete game and struck out six batters in his first start and appearance on the mound in 2015. Berihuete earned his first start at first base and went 3-3 with two runs, and Garcia—who slotted in at third base—went 2-4 with one run and one RBI.

Offense was hard to come by in game two, as the Panthers went scoreless through the first four innings despite Globe's surge that saw them score 16 runs.

Divine Hawkins (0-3) was credited with the loss after allowing seven runs through 2.1 innings of action. Biel, Berihuete and Camilo Pena provided relief efforts.

Ramon Nunez and German both went 1-2 with the former stealing two bases and the latter one.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, April 14 when they begin a four-game series with regional rival Suffolk County Community College at Padavan-Preller Complex in Bellerose, NY at 4:00 PM. Game two is set for Friday, April 17, also at Preller at 4:00 PM. The series concludes on Saturday, April 18 with a doubleheader at Suffolk's Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY at 12:00 PM.
