SELDEN, NY| The #3 Borough of Manhattan Community College men's basketball team defeated Bronx Community College 80-66 in the NJCAA Region XV D-III semifinal on Saturday evening at Suffolk County Community College's Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY. The Panthers advance to the final where they meet Hostos Community College in a rematch of the CUNYAC semifinal, which BMCC won 83-73. The #1 seeded Panthers (27-3) took a 10-point lead (18-8) at 14:19 of the first half and went on to carry the play for the remainder of the frame before heading into the break up 40-33. Bronx would struggle to string points together early in the second and before it was too late the Panthers built leads as great as 18 points en route to the 14 point victory.
Sophomore Justin Manon shot a perfect 7-7 from three (10-13 from the field) and recorded a career-best 30 points in the win, while CUNYAC Player of the Year Kenneth Coar scored 12 points and grabbed 10 boards for his 15th double-double of the season.
The Panthers featured nine players with four points or more, with Jamel Harris scoring eight, Elijah Bryant scoring six and Akeem Williams scoring five.
BMCC will battle Hostos in the final tomorrow at 1:30 PM with a trip to the NJCAA D-III National Championship tournament a stake. The game will take place at Suffolk County Community College's Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY. Directions can be found here. The game will also be streamed live here.
