Men's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker in CUNYAC Championship

Queens, NY  |  After sweeping the CUNY Athletic Conference in the regular season, the Panthers Men's Soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss in the CUNYAC Championship game. The team recovered from an 0-2 second half deficit before Queensborough pulled ahead on a penalty kick in the last five minutes.

Trailing 0-2 with 30 minutes remaining, Peter Ceesay scored a top shelf goal on a free kick from the edge of the box. That was all it took to get the Panthers offense going, as just one minute later Jonathan Lopez linked up with Ulrich Mokolo on a cross in the box to even the score at 2-2.

Both teams aggressively battled for possession, but neither team could break the deadlock until the final minutes of play. With less than ten minutes remaining, the BMCC sideline erupted when Mokolo took the ball on a breakaway and put it in the back of the net. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the goal was taken away because the official ruled Mokolo fouled the defender. Then, in the 86th minute, a Queensborough player went down at the edge of the box and the official gave the Tigers a penalty kick that would seal the game.

The Panthers will look to put this loss behind them as they enter the Region XV tournament. They will face the Westchester Vikings in the opening round on Saturday at 1 PM. In their previous matchup, both sides played very physical and 10 yellow cards were issued as BMCC lost 0-2.
