Panthers Fall to Suffolk in a Tale of Two Halves

New York, NY  | In a matchup against the reigning National Champions and current Region XV leaders, the Panthers let a 3-1 halftime lead slip from their grasp. Despite playing with 10 men for the second half, the Suffolk Sharks rallied back to force a 3-3 tie before scoring a game winner in the final minute of overtime.

The offense hit the ground running in the first half, Marcus Folkes picked up two goals in the first 10 minutes off of assists from Ulrich Mokolo and Abdoulaye Gueye. With a minute remaining in the first half, Region XV Player of the Month Serigne Kasse received a pass from Jonathan Lopez and ripped a shot from 20 yards out, the ball dipped under the crossbar to give BMCC a two goal lead entering halftime.

Following the loss of starting Center Back Dazougou Pacode to injury, the team looked out of rhythm for much of the second half. Three minutes into the second half, a player on the Sharks would be ejected from the game after receiving his second yellow card. Even with a man advantage, BMCC gave up 2 goals in the span of five minutes before they tightened up on defense to push the game into overtime.

The Panthers were unable to break through the Sharks defense for the final 65 minutes of the game. The closest they came was on a Adama Coulibaly breakaway in the final minutes of overtime, but a spectacular save from Suffolk's goalie kept the game alive. With less than 90 seconds to play, the Sharks scored the Golden Goal to hand the Panthers their second straight loss.

BMCC currently sits at third in the region with a 7-2-1 overall record, they will look to avenge this loss when they return to action tomorrow. This Friday, the Panthers will travel uptown to take on their CUNYAC rivals, the Bronx Broncos. Kickoff is set for 4pm.
