BRONX, NY| The Borough of Manhattan Community College women's volleyball team split its first double -duel of the 2014 season on Saturday afternoon at Hostos Community College in the Bronx. The hosts defeated the Panthers 3-0 in the afternoon's first match, but BMCC battled hard to win a five-set thriller against Bronx Community College in the second game.

Hostos pounced on BMCC early in the first match and hardly let up. The Caimans won the first set 25-7, the second 25-5 and the third 25-10. Freshman Wai Shan Chan claimed five assists.

The second match versus Bronx was a much tighter affair. After winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-22, BMCC failed to close out the match in the third and fourth sets, losing 25-18 and 25-23 respectively. But in the fifth set the Panthers came through with a 15-10 win. Sophomore captain Tania Mejia dug-out 25 balls and Kaina Bazard assisted 12 points.
Up next for the Panthers is the Fashion Institute of Technology who come to BMCC on Thursday, September 18 at 7 PM inside BMCC Gymnasium.
