Men's Soccer Loses OT Heartbreaker to Westchester

BMCC is 6-2-1 on the season

NEW YORK, NY| The Borough of Manhattan Community College men's soccer team lost a OT thriller to Westchester Community College 2-1 Saturday evening at Pier 40. With the loss the Panthers fall to 6-2-1 season, but remain near the top of the NJCAA Region XV standings.

BMCC pounced on its opponent early and often, outshooting the guests 12-4 in the first half, although there was no breakthrough to be found for either side.

Westchester started the second frame strong and eventually broke the deadlock in the 54th minute, when Douglas McKim ended BMCC keeper Melvin Lopez's 253 minute shutout streak.

After the goal, BMCC put the pressure back on Westchester and saw several opportunites go wayside; that was until midfielder Diego Soto's long-ball pass found a streaking Kimani Evans, who tipped the ball past Westchester keeper Peter Kakavas in the 72nd minute.

Despite several more opportunities to win the game, the Panthers failed to convert. It was Westchester that found the golden goal, and it came off the foot of Edison Mejia in the 106th minute.

In the end, BMCC fired 25 shots toward goal and forced Kakavas into making eight saves. Lopez had five saves for the Panthers.

BMCC wraps up its regular season campaign next Saturday, October 19 against Bronx Community College at 4 PM. Although it is a BMCC home game, the match will take place at Kingsborough Community College.
