Panthers Score Late to Defeat FIT, 3-2
New York, NY - The BMCC Panthers Women's Soccer Team picked up a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Tigers of the Fashion Institute of Technology, earning their second win of the season. The Panthers once again struck first, jumping out to an early 2-0 advantage.
Jaqueline Barrera (New York, New York) opened the scoring, with
Michelle Martinez (Bronx, New York) providing the assist.
Emily Pelcastre (Brooklyn, New York) would then find the back of the net to extend the Panthers' lead to two goals. FIT battled back in the second half, scoring twice to erase BMCC's two-goal advantage and even the match at 2-2. With the game heading toward its final minutes, Barrera came through once again. In the 87th minute, Barrera found the back of the net with her right foot to give the Panthers a dramatic 3-2 lead. BMCC held on in the closing minutes to secure the victory. Mireya Contreras (Queens, New York) anchored the defense with 7 saves. The victory marks Contreras' second win of her freshman campaign.
With the win, the Panthers improve their season record of 2-1-2 overall, 2-0-1 in region.
