NEW YORK, NY - BMCC traveled to the Bronx,NY, looking to capture the inaugural CUNY Community College Men's Volleyball Championship. Standing in their way was the Wave of Kingsborough Community College, who came into the Championship Game as the #2 seed in the CUNY Conference. The top seeded Panthers swept the season series vs. KCC, however, all 6 sets the two teams played this year were close. The opening set of the championship match proved to be much of the same as the Panthers took the 1-0 lead with a narrow 27-25 victory in set 1. Sets 2 and 3, saw back and forth action, before the Panthers pulled away with 25-20 and 25-16 victories, respectively. The 3-0 victory secured the championship for the Panthers!
Following the championship match, the Panthers turned their attention to the region championships. As the #2 seed in the Region, the Panthers advance directly to the semi-finals at Nassau Community College. In the semi-finals, BMCC would vs. #9 nationally ranked, Monroe University Express, a team they split their season series with. During the semi-final match, the Panthers left no doubt and made quick work of the #9 team in the country, winning the semi-final match 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-17). In the Championship Match, the Panthers battled the #1 seed, and #2 nationally ranked, Lions of Nassau Community College in a rematch of the 2025 Region Championship. Having lost both matches to the Lions this season, the Panthers were in for a battle.
Having dropped set 1 (25-20), the Panthers started set 2 strong as they took a 23-21 lead. However, the defending region champion Lions battled back to take the 2nd set 26-24. The 3rd was also a close battle with the Lions taking it 25-22. With the loss, the Panthers finished the regular season as the Region XV runner-up for the 2nd consecutive year.
BMCC will now turn its attention to a potential NJCAA National Championship appearance. As the #7 ranked team in the country, the Panthers (13-5 overall, 4-0 conference) are optimistic that they will hear there name called during the NJCAA Selection Show on Wednesday, April 15th.
