Panthers Ride The Wave To Victory

NEW YORK, NY -  The Panthers, looking to put an end to a 2-game losing streak, took to their home court Tuesday night against CUNY rival Kingsborough Community College. BMCC came out strong, in front of a raucous home crowd of over 400 spectators, taking a 25-13 lead 10 minutes into the game behind the hot shooting of freshman Noah Smith (Brooklyn, New York).  The Panthers thwarted every push from the Wave in the 1st half with key defensive stops and timely baskets, including a thunderous fast break dunk by Naiim Walker (Brooklyn, New York)  over multiple Kingsborough defenders.  The back and forth play resulted in the Panthers taking a 37-31 lead into the half.

The second half continued, just as the 1st half ended, with back and forth action between the two city schools.  The Wave began to get hot from downtown, connecting on 4 trifectas in the second half, resulting in the Brooklyn school taking a 72-71 lead with 4 minutes remaining in the game.  However, BMCC quickly answered off a key drive into the paint from Jayport Smith (Bronx, New York) where he found a wide open Noah Smith who connected on clutch 3 pointer in front of the Panthers bench to regain the lead 74-72.  The Wave hit key free throws down the stretch to cut the lead to 76-75 but once again the connection of Jayport Smith to Noah Smith resulted in another clutch 3-pointer for the Panthers as they extended the lead to 79-75.    Key rebounding from Isaiah Ifill (Brooklyn, New York) and Alden Cornelius (Brooklyn, New York), 18 and 11, respectively, played a large role in the Panthers rebounding advantage.  The 11 boards for Cornelious, combined with his 10 points, resulted in his 2nd double-double, tied with Ifill for the team lead.  Following a final defensive stop, BMCC sealed the victory with 2 free throws from Wilson Rodriguez (Harlem, New York) to extend the lead to the final score of 81-75.

With the win, the Panthers improve to 4-3 overall, 2-1 conference.
