Bronx, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team kicked off new Head Coach Vaughn Titus's inaugural season in dominant fashion over Bronx Community College in straight sets in Region 15 action on Thursday evening at Alumni Gym. The Panthers improve to 1-0 (1-0 Region XV) while the Broncos drop to 0-2 (0-2 Region XV).
Freshman Andrea Perez-Guzman (Brooklyn, New York) led all swingers with a game-high 11 kills, while classmate Kavana Liburd (Queens, New York) was the chef of the Panther's outstanding hitting performance, dishing out a game-best 33 assists. Classmate Jaylynn Mateo (Brooklyn, New York) unloaded nine kills, and sophomore Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) put down eight. Fellow freshman Devon Vazquez (New York, New York) led BMCC from the backline with a team-high five service aces, while Mateo and Aurel registered four and three service aces in the contest.
The Panthers hit .812 in their opening set (15K-2E-16TA) and registered a .63 hitting clip overall for the match (38K-9E-46TA).
BMCC will look to build on this strong effort during their first two home matches of the season in a tri-match this Saturday, September 14, against Roxbury Community College at noon and Kingsborough Community College at 4 p.m. For more information, please visit the BMCC Women's Volleyball Schedule.
