Bayside, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team's season came to a close in four sets (19-25,23-25,25-22,23-25) against Kingsborough Community College in a competitive back-and-forth affair on Monday night in the 2024 CUNYAC Community College semifinals at RFK Gymnasium. The Panthers finish up the 2024 season at 7-13 overall, while the Wave improve to 8-13 and head to the finals match for the second straight season.
The Panthers had two players post double-doubles in the contest. Sophomore Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) led BMCC's offensive effort, smashing a team-best 13 kills and fielding 24 digs. Freshman Ishinay Lennon (Bronx, New York) put up her first career double, unloading a career-high 10 kills and chipping in with 14 digs, also a career-high. Lennon also placed a team-high six service aces. Underclassman Kavana Liburd (Queens, New York) dished out a game-high 26 assists in the contest.
Aurel finished her career as the program's all-time leader with 595 career digs and moved into third all-time in school history with 285 career kills, tying her with Kayshawna Richardson. Aurel also finished her career sixth all-time in school history with 89 career service aces and fourth all-time in career blocks with 65, surpassing Wai Shan Chan (New York, NY). Her 175 career assists are also 15th all-time in program history.
Liburd was the sixth Panther in a single season to record 300 or more assists, dishing out a team-best 361 assists this season, which was the sixth most in a single season and all-time in program history.Â
Freshman Jaylynn Mateo (Brooklyn, New York) led the Panthers on defense with a career-high 26 digs, while Aurel posted two solo blocks.
Kyrah Allison led the Wave on offense with a game-high 14 kills, while Rayan Jahmi dished out 16 assists and joined Solandra Arizaga to add a team-best three service aces. Lovelle Harris also threw down seven kills in the match. Defensively, the Wave had three players with double-digit dig performances. Joycelyn Toxqui registered a game-high 36 digs, while Jasmine Morris and Arizaga recorded 21 and 10 digs, respectively.
