Bellerose, New York – The BMCC Baseball team dropped a Region 15 battle against Nassau Community College on Friday afternoon, 30-8, at Padavan-Preller Complex. The win moves the Lion's record to 16-8 (9-5 Region XV), while the Panthers fall to 2-18 (2-16 Region XV).
The BMCC offense produced their seventh double-digit hitting performance of the season with 11 hits, with sophomore
Maxwell Jimenez (Dominican Republic) and freshman
Luis Ramirez (Brooklyn, New York) leading the way with three hits each and their second multi-hit game of the season with
Jimenez driving in a season-high three runs.
Sophomores
Gerardo Galan Berihuete (Brooklyn, New York),
Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York),
Abdel Raheem Dolah (Brooklyn, New York) all registered a hit apiece. Freshman
Nicholas Mattera (Moorpark, California) and
Peter Rodriguez Reyes (Bronx, New York) also had one hit apiece, with
Rodriguez-Reye's coming on his first home run of the season.
Berihuete also put up his second multi-RBI game of the season with two on the day, while Mattera led the Panthers defensively on the afternoon with a team-high seven putouts.
Reyes moved into a tie for third all-time in program history in career hits with 43 while moving up to a tie for sixth most in a single season with a team-best 27 hits. He also moved into third most in a single-season for RBIs with 22 and tied for fourth all-time with 26 career RBIs.
Dolah also moved up to fourth all-time in career hits with 41 and seventh most in a single season in hits with 27, which is also currently second on the team.
After both squads went scoreless in the first inning, with both pitchers combining to retire six of the seven batters faced, Nassau grabbed seven runs the next three innings, opening up a 14-0 lead and expanding it to 21-4 after four innings. The Panthers grabbed three runs in the bottom of the third, and one in the fourth as
Reyes, Dolah, and Jimenez all cashed in with RBI singles in the third, and Rodriguez-Reyes blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. Jimenez ripped a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth, and Berihuete unloaded a two-run single of his own for the rest of the Panther offense despite the Lions running away for a 30-8 victory.
Nicholas Schimmel went the distance for Nassau Community College, picking up his first victory of the season, lasting seven innings, allowing 11 hits and eight runs while striking out eight and walking one.
Dolah took the loss for the Panthers, allowing zero hits and five runs over one and one-third innings.
