Marte's Career-High 31-Point Effort Lifts Men's Basketball To First Win Of The Season Over LaGuardia

Long Island City, New York – The BMCC men's basketball team bounced back dominantly on Tuesday night in CUNYAC action, using a late first-half surge to pull away early and grab their first victory of the season 92-62 against Laguardia Community College in Long Island City, New York. The Panthers improve to 1-1 (1-0 CUNYAC) with the victory, while the Red Hawks fall to 0-1 (0-1 CUNYAC).
 
The Panthers got a balanced offensive contribution on the evening, with 10 players recording a point and three scoring in double figures as sophomore Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York) would lead the way with a career-high 31-point effort on 12-for-15 shooting. Freshman Isah Mohammed (Lagos, Nigeria) posted his first career double-double with a career-high 14 points and a team and career-best 13 boards. Classmate Ja'Lyn Griffin (Ithaca, New York) also had a career night, dishing out a career and team-high 11 points and seven assists. 
 
Mohammed and Griffin also led BMCC defensively as Mohammed swatted away a career and team-high five shots, and Griffin snatched a career and team-best four steals.
 
Sophomore Jayden Jarrett (Bronx, New York) scored eight points and registered six rebounds and two blocks. Classmate Boubacar Mbaye (Staten Island, New York) had seven points and three steals, and freshman Khalil Black (Queens, New York) had another solid outing in the frontcourt with four assists.
 
The Panthers will look for back-to-back victories in their home opener against No. 15 nationally ranked Nassau Community College on Saturday, November 11, at 2 p.m. in the BMCC Gymnasium. For more information, visit the BMCC Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
