HISTORY MADE! Women’s Soccer Captures Program’s First-Ever Conference Championship In Inaugural CUNYAC Community College Women’s Soccer Final

New York, New York –  The Panthers women's soccer program has made enormous strides in year two of head coach Tobechukwu Obi's regime and was looking to put an exclamation on it with the program's first-ever Conference Championship in the inaugural CUNYAC Community College Women's Soccer Final on Sunday afternoon at Queens College. BMCC was locked in from the moment they got off the bus and put everyone on notice with an offensive explosion, rolling to a 7-0 victory on Sunday afternoon over Queensborough Community College at Queens College.

The Panthers women's program notched their first-ever postseason title in school history, improving to 4-3 overall. The number of wins matches the program's total over the last season.

Freshman Nathali Ocampo-Lopez (Quimbaya, Colombia) went off for a seven-point afternoon, registering her team-leading third hat trick of the season to go along with one helper en route to being named CUNYAC Community College Women's Soccer Championship MVP.

After settling into their attack after 13 minutes of play, the Panthers bore down, opening the scoring in the 19th minute as freshman Yamile Bastidas (Quito, Ecuador) took a feed in the center of the box from classmate Ocampo-Lopez and rolled into the left side of the cage for her fourth marker of the season giving BMCC a 1-0 lead. The Panthers got two more goals later in the first half to provide some breathing room when sophomore and team captain Nayely Garcia (Puebla, Mexico) knifed through the Queensborough defense and uncorked a blast from the top of the box to make it 2-0 in the 39th minute, then Ocampo-Lopez buried her first marker of the match on an assist from classmate Rafaela Hernandez in the 43rd minute to make it 3-0 going into the halftime break.

After BMCC outshot Queensborough 11-4 in the first half, they continued to dictate that narrative in the second, recording 18 of the 19 total shots fired and increasing their lead to 4-0 three minutes in when Ocampo-Lopez twinkled the twine on a beautiful through ball from Garcia in the 48th minute then less than a minute later Garcia return the favor netting her second on the afternoon in the 49th minute from freshman Shirly Rivas (Azogues, Ecuador) to make it 5-0. Freshman Estefania Zanabria (Queens, New York) recorded her first marker of the season in the 76th minute before Ocampo-Lopez completed her hat trick in the 83rd minute to make it a 7-0 lead, which the Panthers held en route to victory.

BMCC outshot Queensborough 29-5 overall on the afternoon.

Josely Jimenez notched her third victory of the season and team-best second shutout, while Kiara Jimenez Diaz denied a game-high 11 shots.
