BMCC Men's Basketball’s Six Game Winning Streak Ended At Home On Saturday Afternoon

New York, New York – The BMCC men's basketball's six-game winning streak was ended in a back-and-forth affair 77-66 to CUNYAC opponent Kingsborough Community College on Saturday afternoon at BMCC Gymnasium. The Wave move to 4-6 (3-3 CUNYAC) with the win, while the Panthers drop to 7-5 (5-1 CUNYAC) with the loss.

The Panthers had three players register double-digit scoring efforts, with sophomore Jeremiah Cardi (New York, New York) leading the way with a team-high 17 points. Freshman Jayden Jarrett (Bronx, New York) posted two new career-highs putting up his first double-double of the year with a career-best 16 points and a team-high 10 boards while swatting away a game and career-best three shots.

Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York) recorded his third straight double-digit scoring effort with 15 points, while classmate Victor Cruz (Brooklyn, New York) handed out a game and career-high six assists in the contest. Sophomore Adewale Fasanmi (Brooklyn, New York) also brought in seven rebounds and registered five assists and five points in his first game as a Panther.

This contest was a seesaw affair featuring 15 total lead changes and 10 ties through 40 minutes of action. The first half had six lead changes and four ties. After both squads exchanged the first 16 points, Tyrese Grant's layup gave the Wave the lead 10-8 at 16:08, and then Cardi knocked down a three at the 14:56 mark to put the Panthers back in front 11-10. Grant tied it up again at 11 for Kingsborough, going 1-for-2 at the free throw line.

Marte laid it in to put BMCC back in front 13-11 at 13:47, and then Troy Graham responded with one of his own to knot it back up for KCC at 13. After Cardi went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe at 12:40 to put the Panthers in front 14-13, the Wave scored six of the following seven points with a Grant layup stretching the KCC lead to four, 19-15 at the 9:34 mark. The Panthers rolled off five straight points with a Jarrett layup giving them back the lead 20-19 at 8:23 before the Wave put together an 8-1 run to extend their lead to its largest of the first half, six, 27-21 on a Graham bucket at 4:47.

The Panthers finished the first half on an 8-2 run, with Cruz drawing a foul at the horn and connecting on both free throws to lock the game up at 29 at halftime.

The second half provided the same competitive environment as BMCC came out strong, racing to a 33-30 lead at the 18:08 mark, with four points coming from Jarrett on a jumper and a layup. After a Graham layup gave KCC the lead back 34-33 at 17:45, the Panthers rolled off five consecutive points, with Jarrett's layup at 15:33 giving them their largest lead of the afternoon four, 38-34. KCC mounted a 7-2 run to go back in front 41-40 at 14:06 on a Graham jumper, then BMCC responded with four of the next six points to get the lead back 44-43 at 12:08 on a Jarrett layin.

After Isavior Coombs buried a pair of free throws to tie it at 44, KCC would take over from there with a 10-2 run to stretch the lead to eight, 54-46 at 9:56 on a three-pointer by Tabidi Abdelamaged. Marte knocked down two free throw attempts at 8:10 to get BMCC within four, 54-50, but KCC would not let it get any closer. The Wave would roll off six straight points to lead by double digits for the first time of the day 10, 60-50 at 6:02 and then to its largest of the game, 13, 73-60 on a Graham layup with 59 seconds to go en route to a 77-66 victory.

Kingsborough had three players finish the afternoon in double figures, with two players registering 20-point scoring efforts. Freshman Tabidi Abdelamaged dropped a game-high 22 points, while classmate Troy Graham had 20 points.
