Garden City, New York – The BMCC Baseball team dropped both contests in their Region 15 doubleheader on the road to Nassau Community College 18-3 and 18-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers fall to 0-16 (0-16 Region XV) with both losses while the Lions registered their fifth straight win to improve to 13-8 (12-7 Region XV).
Game 1 - Nassau Community College 18, Borough of Manhattan 3
Nassau's offense started quickly when Dylan Strang blasted a two-run triple on a 1-0 count to put the Lions in front 2-0. Anthony Lamar followed with an RBI triple to stretch the advantage to 3-0, scoring Strang before scoring on a Sampogna RBI single to make it 4-0. Braeden Clark and Nicholas Inzerillo
recorded an RBI triple and single to give the Lions a 7-0 lead going into the top of the second inning.
Nassau would put the game away in the bottom of the second inning with an 11-run outburst. Clark got the offense rolling, ripping an RBI single into center field to extend the lead to 9-0. Lizardo connected on an RBI double, and two other runners scored on an error in the same sequence to move the lead to 12-0. After three runs were walked, Sampogna uncorked a two-run triple to bring the advantage to 17-0, and it would be increased to 18-0 after a hit batter going into the top of the third.
The Panther's bats got going with their last licks in the top of the fifth. BMCC got their first three men aboard, leading off with
Adrian Beckles (Bronx, New York), who unloaded a single into center field off a 1-2 count. Then
Justin Ramirez (Queens, New York) walked, and
Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) loaded the bases up with a single to the shortstop.
Keijiro Fujiwara (Redington, Florida) ripped one down the first baseline, but Lucas Rubenstein made a great play and turned a double play to leave the Panthers with their final out of the game. On the next at-bat,
Alexander Miranda (Brooklyn, New York) wasted no time blasting a two-run double down the third-base line to get BMCC on the board, making it 18-2. Then,
Braudy Ciprian (Bronx, New York) also found luck off the first pitch right after steaming an RBI double down the third-base line to make it 18-3. The Lions ended the rally after
Abdel Raheem Dolah (Brooklyn, New York) struck out on three consecutive pitches to preserve their victory in Game 1 of the doubleheader.
James Cappozzi picked up the victory for the Lions lasting four innings and striking out eight batters while allowing six hits and three runs.
Miranda took the loss for the BMCC Panthers, going one inning and allowing nine hits and 14 runs.
The Panthers collected six hits on the afternoon, with
Miranda,
Ciprian,
Dolah,
Reyes, and
Richard Suriel (Queens, New York) each collecting one hit for the BMCC Panthers.
Miranda tied a career-high with two RBIs while
Ciprian and him both ripped doubles on the afternoon.
Ciprian and
Fujiwara both recorded steals in the contest.
Game 2 - Nassau Community College 18, Borough of Manhattan 1
The Panthers got on the board first in the second game to lead 1-0.
Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) led off with a single to third base, then
Keijiro Fujiwara (Redington, Florida) reached on an error. Both would steal third and second before
Alexander Miranda (Brooklyn, New York) brought
Reyes across on a sacrifice fly. Starter
Richard Suriel (Queens, New York) got off to a great start in the first inning, retiring three of the four batters he faced to keep the Panthers in front with a 1-0 lead.
After the Panthers went 1-2-3 in the top of the second, Nassau Community College would take control of the game for good in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to take the lead 3-1. Chris McGuggart tied up the game at one on an RBI single, and Michael Perhauz cranked an RBI triple and stole home to give the Lions a 3-1 lead going into the top of the third.
Nassau exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the third as Julio Lizardo, and Braeden Clark connected on back-to-back inside the park home runs to stretch the lead to 6-1. Then Nicholas Inzerillo cranked a two-run double to make it 8-1 and would score on an error. After two runs were walked in, McCuggart and Perhauz would both record RBI singles to make it 14-1 after three innings of play.
The Lions would add four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to seal the sweep in this Region 15 doubleheader by the score of 18-1.
Matt Perri picked up the victory for Nassau C.C. throwing four scoreless innings and striking out four while allowing one hit.
Suriel took the loss for the Panthers, lasting two and two-third innings, allowing eight hits and 14 runs while striking out three.
Reyes led the BMCC offense with his team-leading fourth multi-hit game with two hits and scoring the Panthers only one run in the top of the first. Reyes and Fujiwara both had steals in the contest.
