New York, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team bounced back Thursday evening with a four-set victory (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21) over Region 15 opponent FIT on the road. The victory gives the Panthers 12 for the first time since the 2018 season as they improve to 12-5 (12-3 Region XV), while the Tigers fall to 7-9 (7-4 Region 15) with the loss.
Three of the six Panthers starters posted double-doubles in the Region 15 dual. Sophomore Josanne Lewis (Rochester, Minnesota) recorded her team-leading 13th double-double with team-high 15 kills and tied for the single-season record for kills in a season held by Yolireisi Pichardo with 256. Lewis also got it done on the defensive side of the court corralling 25 digs in the match. Freshman Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) made it back-to-back double-doubles for her third on the year, unloading a career-high 12 kills and leading the BMCC defensive effort with a team-high 30 digs and three blocks (two solo and block assist).
Sophomore Xheni Doci (Saluzzo, Italy) quarterbacked the Panther attack, with zeel dishing out a team-high 29 assists to go along with 18 digs. Doci also smashed a career-high eight kills in the match.
Defensively, the Panthers got an excellent effort on the back line with five players putting up double-digit dig performances as freshmen Sarah Lee (Staten Island, New York) and Albina Rugova (New York, New York) chipped in defensively with 21 and 16 digs, respectively.
Fashion Institute of Technology had two players with double-doubles in the match led by Madison Nguyen, who unloaded a team-high 13 kills to go along with 11 digs. Cassidy Stone distributed a team-high 29 assists and contributed defensively with 14 digs, while Kristina Kwitzer led the defense with a team-best 39 digs. In addition, Chelsey Ruiz patrolled the net with a team-high three blocks, while Maya Burke helped with two blocks of her own.
The Panthers have a chance to end their regular season undefeated in CUNYAC play and capture their first regular season title since 2008.
