New York, New York | The BMCC women's basketball team lost its Regional home contest to Suffolk County Community College on Sophomore Night Thursday, 60-32 at BMCC Gymnasium. In defeat, the Panthers fall to 5-14 (3-11 Region XV) to conclude their regular season, while the Sharks improve to 12-8 (7-7 Region XV) with the victory.

Before tipoff, the Mariners paid tribute to their three graduating sophomores with a special Senior Day ceremony honoring Blossom Berruecos (Flushing, NY), Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York), and Autum Adams-Edwards (Brooklyn, New York). A Sophomore Night Ceremony photo gallery can be viewed at this link.

Adams-Edwards led the Panthers in scoring with 10 points on the evening, while Malcolm missed out on a double-double by one, with nine points and a team-high 14 rebounds to go along with four steals, tying a game-high. The sophomore became the fourth player in program history to record 400 career rebounds and moved into a tie for ninth in program history with 76 career steals.

Freshman Shyasia Preston (Far Rockaway, New York) took down nine rebounds, and Berruecos tied a career-high with eight.

After both teams mustered up just four points in the opening three and a half minutes of the first quarter, the Sharks went on an 8-0 run to get the lead out to 10-2. Then the Panthers rattled off five-straight points - two field-goals each from Adams-Edwards and Malcolm and Berreucos going 1-for-2 at the line - to trim the deficit down to three, 10-7, at the 2:26 mark. Suffolk County Community College went on to score the final eight points to lead 18-7 after one.

The second quarter is when the Sharks took firm control of the game. After Adams-Edwards opened the scoring with a lay-up at 7:41, the Sharks would hold BMCC to just three points (1-for-7 shooting from the field) the rest of the way, while adding 17 to go into halftime up 35-12.

Suffolk went up by as many as 33 points, holding a 49-16 lead after three. The Panthers put together a robust fourth-quarter effort, outscoring the Sharks, 14-13, but the Suffolk went on to win comfortably 62-30.

Two of Suffolk County Community College's five starters finished the night in double-figures, as sophomore Lindsey Devine led the way with a double-double, scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing a game-best 18 rebounds. Freshman Katie Brown dropped 16 points in the contest, while classmates Latavia Stevens and Leatrice Brown led the way in assists (6), a game-high and steals (4), tying a game-high.
