New York, New York | The BMCC men's soccer team was edged, 2-1, on Thursday afternoon in Garden City, New York. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 4-2-1 (3-2-1 Region XV), while the Lions remain undefeated at 9-0 (5-0-0 Region XV).
After both teams felt each other out, Nassau Community College sophomore Jean-Paul Rodriguez was dragged down in the 10th minute, and the Lions received a penalty kick. Rodriguez buried it in the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead.
Freshman midfielder Seydou Diallo (Brooklyn, New York) responded in the 22nd minute on a beautiful free-kick goal from 20 yards out to even the score at 1-1. The Panthers outshot the Lions 10-4 in the first half, and both teams remained gridlocked at 1-1 at the halftime break.
The Lions retook the lead in the 55th minute when Panther freshman goalie Apelete Amehon (Kara, Togo (West Africa) misplayed a ball, and freshman Andy Blanco found Rodriguez for his second of the match to put Nassau back in front 2-1.
BMCC had numerous opportunities but fell short 2-1.
Amehon made two stops in the match while Nassau freshman goalkeeper Matthew Reynolds had eight.
