New York, NY | The Panthers re-entered into the Division III NJCAA men's soccer rankings by stringing together four consecutive victories, and on Tuesday night they would be putting their #9 ranking on the line when they faced off against the Nassau Lions squad ranked third in the nation. BMCC jumped out to an early lead, but Nassau would tie the match in the second half and hand the Panthers a 2-1 defeat in overtime.
The reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week
Jahvaughnie Johnson put the Panthers on the board in the second minute of play with a shot that found the back of the net coming off of an assist from
Edison Burgos. Despite the best efforts from goalkeeper
Bryan Toledo (10 saves), the Panthers picked up three yellow cards in the second half and conceded a goal that evened the score at 1-1. After 90 minutes the match went into sudden-death overtime with both sides looking for the elusive golden goal, but it would be the #3 ranked Nassau Lions that came away with the win by scoring in the 5
th minute of overtime.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 5-2 on the season but maintain a goal differential of +20. The men's soccer team will return to action on October 3
rd when they host Dutchess Community College at Pier 40.
