Brooklyn, NY | The BMCC baseball team took the field at Kingsborough on Thursday looking to claim their first victory of the 2018 season. After winning the first game by a score of 9-6, the Panthers went on to sweep the doubleheader with a 13-5 victory over their CUNYAC opponent.

Trailing by a run entering the final frame,
Randy Berroa hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning to give the Panthers their first lead of the day. BMCC continued to power their way past KCC as
Maximo Garcia followed up with his first home run of the season, then
Alexander Valdez ripped a triple and
Josue Martinez chopped a single to bring the score to 9-6. Valdez closed out the final inning to cap off a complete game performance. The sophomore pitched 7 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on five hits while striking out 7 batters.

The pitching staff continued to shine for the Panthers in the second half of the doubleheader, with
Matthew Leonte tossing 6 innings and allowing 4 earned runs while striking out five. BMCC would not break into the scoring column until the fourth inning, but a barrage of hits quickly brought the Panthers into the lead. Third baseman
Dwayne Thomas went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI.
Stephen Crawford also drove in two runs while hitting 3-for-4.
Christopher Nunez recorded a pair of extra base hits with a double and a triple. The designated hitter Valdez drove in three runs as part of a 7-run inning for the Panthers. With every batter recording a hit, BMCC eased to a 13-5 mercy rule victory to improve to 2-1 in the conference this season.

Following the win, BMCC will close out their season series against Kingsborough on Sunday at Preller Field.
