Queens, NY | Panthers freshman
Christopher Rodriguez was on the mound on Thursday for his second start of the 2017 season. After allowing 2 earned runs in a win over Queensborough last week, the Bronx native held the Broncos to 1 run in a complete-game performance, and helped provide his own run support with 2 RBIs to pick up his second win as a starter. With the victory, the Panthers improve to 2-5 in the CUNY Athletic Conference with 4 conference games remaining.
BMCC broke into the scoring column in the first inning with
Maximo Garcia scoring from second on a Rodriguez single up the middle. Following a 1-2-3 top half of the inning, the Panthers picked up another run in the bottom of the fifth when Rodriguez hit a line drive to the fence to bring in
Darwin Nivar. The Broncos picked up their first run in the sixth, but BMCC answered with a 3-run rally to put the game away. After a Garcia single drove in a run,
Kenny Berihuete stepped up and crushed a double off of the centerfield wall to bring across two more runs.
Second baseman
Rolphy Carmona led the Panthers offense with 3 hits and a run, while Berihuete and Rodriguez both finished with a 2 hits and a pair of RBIs.
Christopher Rodriguez allowed three hits while recording 6 strikeouts without issuing a walk through 7 innings.
The Panthers will return to action on Friday with a 4pm game against the Nassau Lions at Padavan-Preller Field.
